Trip details

The Klamath River is renowned for its historic steelhead runs. It also receives runs of what are known as “half-pounders” — juvenile steelhead that spend only a year in the ocean before returning to their birthplace in large numbers, typically measuring 14-18 inches. In addition to the abundant half-pounder population, the Klamath hosts strong annual runs of adult steelhead, ranging from 4 to 8 pounds. This river has undergone significant restorative changes, including the removal of dams in the upper river, which has helped restore the epic migratory steelhead runs that were once nearly wiped out. The Klamath is primarily a steelhead river, offering excellent dry fly opportunities during the salmon fly hatch from late May to early July. The fish on the Klamath River tend to be acrobatic & very grabby. We typically target them during their migration from September to March. For steelhead, we mostly fly fish with 6-7 weight rods, using egg patterns, nymphs, or flashy streamers. We also offer spey trips and can accommodate any preferences, whether you’d like to cast lures on conventional gear or swing spey rods.
