Trip details

The Trinity River is an iconic California fishery, offering a wealth of opportunities year-round. Known for its fast-moving waters and cool, clean mountain streams, the river features significant elevation changes. It flows from Trinity Lake, running about 100 miles before merging with the Klamath River. The primary targets on the Trinity are the migratory salmon and steelhead during their runs. This is a technical river, both in terms of rowing and presenting flies to fish. It also has special protections— from April 1st to September 1st, the first few miles below the Trinity Dam are designated as fly fishing only. Salmon trips run from 5 AM to 1 PM, while other trips take place from 8 AM to 4 PM. Steelhead fishing on the Trinity takes place during their migration from September to March. For steelhead, we primarily fly fish with 6-7 weight rods, using egg patterns, nymphs, or flashy streamers. We also offer spey trips and are happy to accommodate any preferences, whether you want to cast lures on conventional gear or swing spey rods. From April to September, the Trinity is an excellent fishery for Rainbows and Browns. This river has a strong population of Brown Trout and is a popular summer target for us. From July to October, we see the run of Chinook salmon, and we often target them when they are in season. For Chinooks, we primarily use conventional fishing methods.
