Trip details
When locals ‘round here refer to the Gulf side, most simply call it Out Back. So when we’re fishing out back, were fishing the “Back Country”. This is a magical place that whispers the breath of life upon our island chain and all the reefs. This is where mangrove forests grow past the edge of land dipping their finger like roots into the salt of the Earth. These fingers hold the many game fish and their young and provide habitat for them to thrive. ` The gnarled and overgrown mangrove islands are a nursery upon which all life in the Keys are connected to. The many channels and creeks that churn fresh salt water and bait flow like rivers through these islands. Flats all around rise up to form basins and where the flats meet the mangroves and basins, the highly productive Gulf of Mexico funnels in an immense amount of bait fish, shrimp, and crabs. Its no wonder why in ten casts you might catch ten different species. Depending on tide, time, and temperature we will fish certain areas. Seasonality is everything in this locale. There is certain over lap amongst species per seasonality. Please refer to the species chart for targeting specific fish and to the season section for general overview.
